Give your Feet a Rest!

“Look Deep into nature you will understand everything better.” -Albert Einstein

As summer is quickly approaching I can’t help but think about hitting the water. Whether its paddle boarding, kayaking or floating you are guaranteed to find me on the water. For me nothing beats being out on a beautiful day tanning and getting a great workout in. The water can take you to places that land cannot. Its an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and allows your mind and body to be set free in the beauty of nature.

I have been white water rafting and the adrenaline rush is in-explainable. The water is strong and powerful falling into the rapids can be life threatening. I had the opportunity to white water raft twice while living in Alaska and both trips were unbelievable. The mountains surrounding the rivers were so beautiful it helped in calming the fear that was pumping through my body. The rivers I rafted on were strong and falling overboard could be a serious problem if the current took you under. While going down the river I was paddling for dear life by the take-out point my body was exhausted. From head to toes I felt like a noodle; the smallest amount of force would knock me over. It took about a week for my whole body to fully recover, but the experience was well worth the intense amount of energy and strength involved.

This is a picture of me from my white water trip in Hope, Alaska. Click the picture to visit the Chugach Outdoor Center.

If you’re looking for something less intense kayaking can be a great option. Before hitting the water be sure to know what to expect so you can determine if you’re ready. First timers should start on water that has little to no current to get comfortable with sitting and paddling. Kayaks tip easily, so making sure you are comfortable with the motions before getting into the flowing water. Kayaking provides a great upper body and core workout. As the intensity increases so does the number of calories you burn. When you’re out in the ocean or river the pristine beauty helps you forget about the fierce burn through your arms and abs. While in La Jolla, California I got the opportunity to kayak along the coast and visit several caves. La Jolla is picturesque; being out on the water looking at the beautiful cliffs and houses, while sea lions are jumping next to you is simply indescribable.

Exploring places through your car window doesn’t stand a chance when you can explore by water. You get to experience a whole different perspective out on the water. Kayaking allows you to take you where roads can’t. There are rivers hundreds of miles from roads and that type of experience is once in a lifetime. Neither words nor pictures can truly describe the magical beauty you experience when you are on the water. Experience the beauty of this world out on the water where your mind and body can be set free and relax.

New York Times has devoted a portion to Kayaking and Canoeing. The journey and adventure of different kayak/canoe trips around the world are told. The pictures that are shown are incredible. Click here to visit.
